Tiger Woods to redesign famed Long Island golf club that was rocked by prostitution scandal

Tiger Woods and his design firm are set to break ground on a new project, reviving a golf club that’s been closed since 2021.
The 15-time major winner announced that he and his team will be redesigning the Tam O’Shanter Country Club on Long Island, roughly 10 miles away from where he won the 2002 U.S. Open.
The club was rocked by a scandal in the early 2010s when it was reported that members of the club took prostitutes and strippers to the club for golf outings. The property was sold in 2019 for a potential housing development project, but plans fell through after an arsenic discovery, and the club closed two years later.

But Woods is planning on bringing the once-famed course back to life.
“The opportunity to create a new golf experience in the heart of Long Island’s Gold Coast, a region steeped in rich history, is tremendously exciting for our team,” Woods said in a statement. “I have great memories of competing on Long Island, especially at Bethpage. This region has an extraordinary golf course architecture tradition, and we look forward to contributing to that legacy with a course that players can enjoy for generations.”
“Bringing Tiger Woods and TGR Design to this beautiful and historic part of Long Island is a remarkable opportunity,” Brookville Mayor Dan Serota said in a statement. “Combining the Gold Coast’s longstanding golf tradition with Tiger and his team’s skill and attention to detail makes this an exciting project for Brookville and the broader region.”

Woods’ TGR Design is partnering with The Armchair Collective, a private golf company that bought the land in September.
The project will include new practice facilities, a new clubhouse and a golf performance center.
“Long Island is home to some of the most celebrated golf courses in the country, and we’re looking forward to contributing to the region’s rich golf history,” Woods said in an Instagram post.
Woods’ return to the golf course remains to be determined – he has not played since the 2024 Open Championship. When he was arrested in March, he said he was “hoping to” play in April’s Masters, but he ultimately missed the entire 2026 season.
