Corey Hunt Lewiston Releases Free Home Electrical Safety Checklist for Homeowners

3

Maine, USA, Jul 23, 2026, ZEX PR WIRE — Corey Hunt Lewiston, Master Electrician and Owner of Rocky Coastal Electric, has released a free Home Electrical Safety Checklist designed to help everyday homeowners identify common warning signs that may require attention. The simple resource can be completed in about 15 minutes and encourages people to become more aware of the condition of their home’s electrical system before small issues turn into major repairs.

The checklist is based on the same practical mindset that has guided Hunt throughout his career, from working on solar installations in 2014 to leading electrical projects across the United States before founding Rocky Coastal Electric in 2023.

“Success is continuing your education. Constantly improving day after day and being better than the day before,” said Hunt. “This checklist is simply another way for people to learn more about the homes they live in.”

Electrical problems remain a significant issue for homeowners across North America.

  • The U.S. Fire Administration reports that approximately 24,000 residential electrical fires occur each year in the United States.

  • Those fires result in an estimated 295 deaths and more than $1.2 billion in property loss annually.

  • The Electrical Safety Foundation International estimates that electrical distribution systems are involved in thousands of home fires every year.

  • The National Fire Protection Association reports that electrical failures or malfunctions remain one of the leading causes of home fires, especially in older properties.

Rather than focusing only on repairs after something goes wrong, Hunt hopes the checklist encourages people to pay attention to warning signs earlier.

“Showing up every day and creating solutions for people with problems has always been my approach,” Hunt said. “The more people understand about their own homes, the easier it is to prevent bigger problems later.”

The checklist walks readers through simple observations, including checking for warm outlets, frequently tripped breakers, damaged extension cords, overloaded power strips, flickering lights, smoke detector testing and visible signs of wear around electrical panels. It is designed for observation only and does not encourage anyone to perform electrical work themselves.

Hunt believes education often starts with asking better questions.

“Moving forward is success even if it doesn’t look like it on the surface,” he said. “Learning one new thing about your home today is still progress.”

Use This in 15 Minutes

The checklist is designed to be completed in one walk through the home.

  1. Test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector.

  2. Look for damaged outlets, switches and extension cords.

  3. Check whether breakers trip repeatedly.

  4. Identify overloaded power strips or extension leads.

  5. Look around the electrical panel for clear access and obvious warning signs.

  6. Write down anything unusual so it can be discussed with a qualified electrician if needed.

Common Mistakes People Make

  • Ignoring breakers that trip repeatedly.

  • Using extension cords as permanent wiring.

  • Plugging too many high-power appliances into one outlet.

  • Waiting until lights flicker or outlets stop working before taking action.

  • Forgetting to test smoke alarms regularly.

For Hunt, the resource reflects a philosophy that has shaped both his career and personal life.

“You can be nice to people and still get stuff done,” he said. “Helping people understand something before it becomes a problem is part of doing the job well.”

Readers are encouraged to download or print the checklist, complete the walkthrough today, make notes of anything that stands out and create a plan to address any concerns safely with a qualified professional if needed. Spending just 15 minutes now could help prevent far greater costs and risks in the future.
